Alex Lee
Currently an Intern at The Common Good, Alex’s main project is database work, which includes merging and syncing existing various database lists to Salesforce.com. He is also assisting TCG staff with research, videotaping, photographing and event planning.
An enthusiastic, energetic, tireless “people person”, Alex has dedicated much of his life to giving back to the communities around him. He earned his BA from the University of Vermont, where he studied History and Political Science. As a student, he worked as a volunteer for UVM Students for Barack Obama, helping more than 100 students to register to vote in the 2008 Vermont primary election.
After graduation, his passion for fighting poverty led him to join AmeriCorps VISTA, where he made a yearlong, full time commitment to serve at the Urban Homesteading Assistance Board (UHAB) as a community organizer in low-income neighborhoods in the Bronx and Harlem. Networking with politicians and tenant leaders to raise awareness and planning action-oriented efforts around housing rights, he liaised between elected officials, management and tenants to improve housing conditions.
In addition to working on numerous affordable housing campaigns, he once again did voter outreach canvassing door-to-door across the borough of Queens to raise awareness of and support for the Bloomberg for Mayor 2009 campaign. Inspired as both a citizen of America and the world to make life better for others, Alex worked as an intern at the Elie Wiesel Foundation For Humanity, an organization dedicated to combatting indifference, intolerance, and injustice through international dialogue and youth-focused programs that promote acceptance, understanding, and equality. His favorite quote, “Life is a beautiful struggle” has inspired him to challenge himself and will continue to motivate him to help make a difference.
