Gabrielle Kur

Currently, Gabrielle is enrolled in Boston University’s Dual Degree Program, studying International Relations with a foreign policy and security focus in the College of Arts and Science and Public Relations in the College of Communication. Her background heavily influences her – her parents emigrated from the former Soviet Union because of religious persecution, giving her a strong European-American upbringing, exposing her to different cultures and language from birth. This has sparked her desire to help create a world without borders.

In the future, Gabrielle hopes to continue to travel. She has already visited 6 countries in Europe, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and Israel. By traveling, she has been able to see that, although cultures and language may be different, everyone is more alike than they think. This idea of common ground is something that she has been exploring further in her internship with The Common Good this summer. Some of the projects she has been working on include developing the social media outreach, — via Twitter, Facebook, and Tumblr – putting together viral videos, and event planning.

One of her favorite achievements is founding the Boston University chapter of Omega Phi Alpha, a national service sorority. In a school so diverse with so many opportunities to find something to do in a dynamic and spirited city, she and her friends managed to create a new niche for service-minded leaders. After two years of hard work, their efforts will be recognized at their official initiation this fall. In just one semester as a colony, Gabrielle and her fellow sisters managed to do 487 hours of service, including numerous visits to a local soup kitchen, participating in Relay for Life, raising money for a local homeless shelter, and walking for Autism. Through this sorority, as a member of the executive board, she has been given a chance to be a leader and role model for her fellow sisters, and for incoming pledges. She can continue the OPhiA tradition of selflessly helping others and inspiring tomorrow’s leaders.
