Martha Lauer
Martha Lauer is a senior studying Political Science and French at Fordham University. Martha developed a passion for promoting democracy and awareness of social justice issues early on, volunteering with Amnesty International and Oxfam USA. In college, this passion has driven her activism both on and off-campus, as President of Fordham University’s Progressive Students for Justice Club as well as with Sojourners, a New York City based program that provides services to immigrants and coordinates visits with detainees at the Immigration Detention Facility in Elizabeth, NJ.
Since then, Martha has spent time working as a summer legal intern at Catholic Charities, a non-profit immigration law firm in her hometown of Milwaukee, WI, and this past year, spent five months abroad, studying at American University Center of Provence in Marseille, France. Her program focused on issues of immigration in France, specifically from North Africa, as well as studies of cross-cultural mediation, which was facilitated by an on-site study in Fez, Morocco.
This summer Martha has been happy to be a part of an organization that encourages civil dialogue and find ways to bridge the political divides of our nation. As an intern with The Common Good, Martha has been contributing to TCG’s Speaker List section of the website, as well as with helping with events and social media projects.
