Game Changers
Arielle Schacter – TCG Intern
Congratulations to Arielle! We are very proud that Arielle was recently featured in Glamour Magazine at its Women of the Year ceremony to recognize 21 young women who are “already making a huge difference in the world.” Arielle, age 17, has been hard of hearing since she was a toddler. She crusades on behalf of youth who are deaf or hard of hearing, for whom she founded an online community, bf4life–hearing.
Arielle Schacter is a senior at the Chapin School in NYC. Arielle interned at The Common Good during the Summer of 2011, helping conduct research and filming individuals for TCG’s video projects. Prior to interning for The Common Good–which she loved –Arielle interned for Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney and Assemblyman Micah Kellner. Since being diagnosed with a hearing loss at age 2 ½, Arielle has helped transform the perception of hearing loss from a disability that only affects the elderly (… or even the “Helen Keller” generation) to something that also includes t(w)eens.
She has founded bf4life-hearing, a website for t(w)eens who are deaf and hard-of-hearing and has spoken with politicians, including before the DOJ, to advocate for making the world more accessible for those who have a hearing loss. She has written articles on the topic which have been published on the Huffington Post and Dan’s Papers. But above all, Arielle is a chocoholic, fashionista, Netflix-watcher who just wants to help make the world a better place.
